Cryptocurrency Question from a Noob

This whole world of crypto is new for me. While Ive played with LBRY for awhile and now have fallen in love with #hive. I still dont fully understand some things about the currency side of it.

  1. To get started do you have to buy crypto with fiat money?
  2. Will the markets ever settle down to where we will have something that "common folks" like me will understand how it works?

The answwer to the first is obviously no. Proof of that is here on Hive. Where you get paid from engagement. But what if I want to do like some of these content creators and accept bitcoin, Dash, eth, etc as donations? Do I need to buy some of those coins in order to receive them? Or is it as simple as just setting up a wallet to receive them?

The 2nd questions answer may not have anything to do with the market but more with a coin that ends up getting mass adoption. From my "outsider noob" viewpoint that one would be Hive. Its easy to get in and the whole "social network" side of it has the biggest potential to draw people like me into it.
